Analysis of numerical simulation data for fluid-particle interaction

  • Subject:Analysis of numerical simulation data for fluid-particle interaction

  • We are continuously generating flow field data by means of large-scale direct numerical simulation of the Navier-Stokes equations. Configurations currently under investigation involve:

    • wall-bounded shear flow (plane channel, open channel, duct flow, Couette),
    • unbounded flow.

Data analysis is mostly carried out with the help of Matlab or similar high-level languages. Proper visualisation of flow data plays an equally important role.

The ideal candidate for a Master thesis is highly motivated to conduct research in fluid mechanics and possesses skills in at least one of the following fields:

    • theoretical fluid mechanics (working with the Navier-Stokes equations),
    • turbulent flow and basics of turbulence modelling,
    • numerical methods for fluid flow (finite-differences, finite-volumes, finite-elements)
    • programming skills (C, C++, FORTRAN, MPI, Linux, scripting).

Further information on the research in our group can be found here and here.
